Hollis Seniors meet every Thursday at the Lawrence Barn Community Center.  Gathering starts at 11 AM and Meals on Wheels is usually brought in at noon.  A program usually follows the meal or members stay and socialize, playing games of their choice.

The summer months turned out to be a busy, enjoyable and interesting for us.

In June, we had our annual picnic with the “Boomers” with many of our members “sitting-in” with the group.  Check the photos on our web site.  Additionally, we had presentations by Hunt and Langdon Place and Service Link.  They all provided wonderful information for Seniors.

In July, we had movies, pizza and an update on the Blue Bus and even went out to lunch at the Olive Garden.  We still had time to be treated to a marvelous watercolor painting demonstration by Ellen Davison.  Such talent!

And in August we had a movie and a great potluck at one our meetings.  Keeping up a current tradition, we had another “outside” lunch date, this time at the “Long Horn” restaurant.  We ended up our August calendar with a presentation by Bill Andrews of GeoDon Tours.  There are lots of places to go, local and far away.

-          1 Sep:  Start of MOW+ Blood Pressure + a new Movie (surprise).

-          8 Sep: Presentation on “Wonderful World of Make Believe.”

-          15 Sep: Update on the expansion of the “Blue Bus.”

-          17 Sep: Hollis Old Home Days

-          20 Sep:  Lunch at the HBMS

-          22 Sep:  Briefing on the mission of “Service Link” and what they can provide

-          26 & 28 Sep:  AARP Safe Driving course.  See/call Andy to register

-          29 Sep:  Monthly business meeting

-          30 Sep:  Trip to “Castle in the Clouds.”  See/call Nancy to register.

General:

1.      The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9.  If the weather looks bad, check Channel 9 and the Hollis Channel 12.

2.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend. 

3.      The SVTC bus service is off to a good start.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?  (We now have one of our own as a State Representative)

2.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

3.      We are going to investigate the possibility of combining some future events with the Nashua Seniors group. 

4.      Look into upcoming classes at RISE.  Some great programs are offered.

5.      Check out the Hollis Library for upcoming seminars on subjects of “senior interest.”

6.      There will be no “mass inoculation” of flu shots this year.

7.      How about a trip to Mohegan Sun?

8.      The Seniors will have a booth at Hollis Old Home Days.

9.      We have a trip to “Castle in the Clouds” scheduled for 30 Sep.  See Nancy Bell.
