Hollis Seniors meet every Thursday at the Lawrence Barn Community Center.  Gathering starts at 11 AM and Meals on Wheels is usually brought in at noon.  A program usually follows the meal or members stay and socialize, playing games of their choice.

The month of September started off with a bang (or should I say a movie).  We had even more excitement as the month went on.  We also added 2 new members.

They are MaryAnn Stawasz and Mary Willis. 

Come by and say, “welcome” at the next meeting.

At our next meeting, we had a lecture and demonstration by Lucy DesRoches on “The Wonderful World of Make Believe.” This centered on hand-made doll clothes made by Lucy, who is a master seamstress. This allows little girls to enjoy “make believe.”   Even “big girls” in the audience were enchanted. 

At our next meeting Stan updated us on the “blue bus.”  It should be noted that the blue bus has had an extension to its schedule.  It now operates 5 days a week, from 8AM to 6PM, Monday thru Friday.  And along with transporting folks to their medical appointments the “bus” now makes trips to shopping areas.  See below about how to register with the “bus” if you have not yet done so.

At our 4th meeting of the month, we were presented with a detailed explanation regarding ServiceLInk by Jasmine Harris from their Nashua office.  ServiceLink is a clearing house for seniors with questions ranging from Medicare, transportation, housing, and drug purchases to just about anything that seniors may have questions about.   You can call ServiceLInk at 1-866-634-9421 or at the Nashua number of 603-598-4709 or visit them at their web site of www.ServiceLink.org.

Seniors were also busy at the Hollis Old Home Days.  We set up our information tent and displayed our various activities. 

We then had our monthly business meeting.  But, that is not all.  The day after our business meeting a group of us (14 seniors) took a bus trip, which was arraigned by Nancy Bell, to the Castle in the Clouds.  We explored the Castle, had lunch in the horse stables and had desert in Wolfeboro, NH where we almost caught the ferry.  It was a great day.

Activities for the month of October 

-          6 Oct:  MOW+ Blood Pressure + a new Movie (surprise).

-          13 Oct: Hunt Home-will do lunch for us and have a dietician present a program on healthy eating.

-          17 Oct:  Lunch at the HBMS.  Please try to attend. 

-          20 Oct:  Hunt At Home will provide lunch and speak about their services for you at your home.

-          27 Oct:  Business meeting 

-          Christmas Party:  plan now, as our Christmas Party is scheduled for 15 December 2011, at the Crown Plaza.  More information to follow.

October Birthdays:  Sandy Bellanger, Helga Coss, Ruth Dunn, Marjorie Frank, and Gerry Walsh.

General:

1.      The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9.  If the weather looks bad, check Channel 9 and the Hollis Channel 12.

2.      We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except Thanksgiving).  Be sure to attend. 

3.      The SVTC bus service has gotten better.  If you have any questions, call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1.  And you can visit the SVTC web site at www.SouheganRides.org.  And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling the above number.

Future Senior Activities of interest.

1.      How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps at work?  (We now have one of our own as a State Representative)

2.      How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?

3.      We are going to investigate the possibility of combining some future events with the Nashua Seniors group. 

4.      Look into upcoming classes at RISE.  Some great programs are offered.

5.      Check out the Hollis Library for upcoming seminars on subjects of “senior interest.”

6.      There will be no “mass inoculation” of flu shots this year.

7.      We have several activities planned for November and December, to include a trip to Mohegan Sun in November and our Christmas Party on 15 December at the Crown Plaza
