Hollis
Seniors meet every Thursday at the Lawrence Barn Community Center. Gathering
starts at 11 AM and Meals on Wheels is usually brought in at noon. A program
usually follows the meal or members stay and socialize, playing games of their
choice.

February 2012
We started January with several plans that got
way laid by the weather. Oh well it is, after all, winter in New Hampshire.
Regardless of the weather we still had several events.
We enjoyed a great slide show of past Hollis
Old Home Days. It was fun seeing some of the old floats, parade vehicles and
antique cars.
At the next meeting Honi Glover told of her
experiences as a lady driving 18 wheel tractor-trailers. Remember, Honi started
driving when basically driving big rigs was a “mans’ world.” The tales of her
experiences showed that Honi was a pioneer among women drivers. And the rigs
she drove were not air-conditioned, required double clutching to shift gears,
etc. Nothing like today’s big rigs that have bunk beds, air-conditioning,
satellite communications, GPS, and every other gadget and convenience.
We finished up the month with our business
meeting where members got to voice their recommendations for future outings and
events.
Finally, the month had a sad note with the
passing of Dot Warren. Dot was a “fireplug” among our group and she was always
ready to step in to help the group. Our condolences to Dot’s family – Dot will
be missed
Activities for the month of February

16 Feb: The Hollis School Jazz band will be playing for us. They
will start playing at 11:45, so come early and get a seat to hear this

Preston Walsh.
General:
1.
REMINDER: Dues are now due! Please see Basil for payment.
2.
The Hollis Seniors now have a gateway to post cancellations on WMUR
TV, airing 15 and 45 minutes past the hour on Channel 9. If the weather
looks bad, check Channel 9 and the Hollis Channel 12.
3.
We have a business meeting the last Thursday of every month (except
Thanksgiving). Be sure to attend.
4.
The SVTC bus service has gotten better. If you have any questions,
call Nashua transportation at 880-0100 Ext 1. And you can visit the SVTC
web site at
www.SouheganRides.org.
And if you have not registered with the “blue bus”, please do so by calling
the above number.
5.
We asked the “blue bus” if they could pick up several members on
Thursday for our meetings. The answer is “YES!” We currently have 1 member
who is using the blue bus service to attend our meetings. Are there others
who are interested?
6.
Senior notification. The Hollis communication center has a procedure
in place by which seniors can be registered for Health and Welfare phone
calls. Forms to register for this service are available from the
Communications Center.
Future Senior Activities of interest.
1.
How about a trip to the NH State House to see and hear our State Reps
at work? (We now have one of our own as a State Representative)
2.
How about a trip to the WW II Wright museum in Wolfeboro, NH. It has
been updated and a great place to visit. Maybe during May 2012?
3.
How about having a TV weather person come and speak to us?
4.
We are going to investigate the possibility of combining some future
events with the Nashua Seniors group.
5.
Look into upcoming classes at RISE. Some great programs are offered.
Please let me know your comments and wishes.
